Using Planters to Create a Boundary



A deck or terrace

which is used as a seating or outdoor dining area often benefits from a low 'wall' of planters to create a feeling of slight separation from the rest of the garden. A large terrace can also be divided into different areas (dining, relaxing, kids play area...) in the same way.

Trough planters can create a simple low boundary

either butted up tightly together or with space between. Combining a couple of pots of different heights can also work well – try a run of low pots with taller ones at either end.

These planter 'walls' work best with a simple planting theme.

  Evergreen grasses and Phormiums are great for year round interest and movement, while clipped Buxus or neat dome shaped plants add a formal air. This can be a great spot for scented plants too, to surround your seating area with fragrance.
