The Old Library, Leamington Spa

Information

Bespoke powder coated steel planters were commissioned for the redevelopment of the landmark Old Library building in historic Leamington Spa.

Originally built in 1901 to house The Free Library and the town's Technical and Art School, The Old Library has been redeveloped by TAG Exclusive Properties into 29 luxury apartments. IOTA’s planters were commissioned for the communal courtyard, which is the focal point of the development, accessed and overlooked by all apartments.

TAG provided IOTA with a dimensioned plan of the courtyard, defining 10 separate areas for which container planting was required. IOTA then proposed the most cost-effective solution to meet this brief in steel, which required 24nr. individual planters with dimensions from L 1750mm x W 450 x H 450mm to L 3050mm x W 600 x H 450mm. The custom planters were joined on-site into continuous runs; and to create a visually seamless surface planting, the intermediate planters have reduced-height ends, and were bolted together under the soil level. The planters were polyester powder coated to RAL 7012 [Basalt grey].
