Bronze’s characteristic warm patina provides a perfect foil for strong and dramatic planting, such as evergreen specimen trees.
Technical Note:
- 'Bronze' is used here as a generic term for a particular 'look', rather than as a strict material specification, since Bronze is not an element. Metals that have ‘the Bronze look’ are instead alloys of different elements.
- A simple alloy of copper plus zinc is generally called 'Brass', but it is nonetheless still included here, as it has 'the bronze look' when patinated. Whereas different 'Bronzes' are generally more complex alloys of copper plus tin plus other elements [such as phosphorus, manganese, aluminium or silicone].
- All of these various sheet metals have 'the bronze look', but they are tonally different; and IOTA can advise what is the best material specification for the desired aesthetic. And all these metals share the benefit of extreme longevity, as the surface naturally oxidises with a protective layer which requires no maintenance.
As ‘Bronze’ alloys are relatively soft metals, and extremely expensive, larger planters are manufactured from 1.2mm Bronze clad onto 2.0mm or 3.0mm Stainless Steel. The resulting double-skin planters deliver the unique aesthetic of Bronze, whilst relying on the superior strength and stiffness of Steel for the planters’ technical performance. The same technique is used by IOTA to create large planters from other softer metals, such as Lead, Copper and Zinc. etc
Bronze planters are generally supplied with a pre-patinated finish; with the intention being that the planters will then age naturally outdoors. The images here show pre-patinated Bronze planters at a relatively early stage of natural ageing; with a general background patina of warm brown and gold. Over time, the planters will become generally darker, with increasing levels of tonal variation and highlights - and eventually some green tones will start to show through.
IOTA custom-manufactures Bronze planters in any shape or size, from simple geometric shapes to complex architectural designs.
All our Bronze planter manufacture is to-order and to your specification, and we do not hold in stock a standard range of shapes and sizes.
