Leek, Staffordshire

Information

Bespoke granite tree planters were selected for the town centre of Leek, the principal town of the Staffordshire Moorlands on the south western edge of the Peak District.

The planters were commissioned as part of town centre improvements at the intersection of Derby Street and Market Street, the location for the popular Wednesday market which draws shoppers into Leek from throughout the Staffordshire Moorlands.

The planters include a number of simple square-sectioned tree planters of dims L 1100 x W 1100 x H 900mm and L 1200 x W 1200 x H 900mm. However 6 of the planters are extra large rectangular tree planters of L 1500 x W 1200 x H 900m, and these larger planters are also of parallelogram form in plan view.

IOTA’s granite tree planters are fabricated from cut sections of quarried granite, and their weight, strength and durability make them ideal for specimen tree planting in communal public spaces. The planters for Leek are raised off the ground on 8 nr. 100mm square granite feet, to allow flexibility for movement by forklift; and the specification also included steel eye bolts in the base of each planter, to serve as attachment points for a tree anchoring system.
