Bespoke powder coated steel planters were commissioned for an enchanting, multi-level garden at a private residence in Guildford, by award-winning garden design and build contractors PC Landscapes.
IOTA’s planters also feature on a terrace, and in a seating / barbeque area of the garden, but the bulk of the planters were used in an extensive, multi-level garden between the house and the swimming pool. As explained by Paul Cowell, Managing Director of PC Landscapes and lead landscape architect on the project:
“Our clients were having the rear of their house remodelled and wanted to create some interest between the upper terrace levels and the swimming pool. They wanted something with high visual impact & interest as they walked to the swimming pool.
Given the geometry of the new extensions, and formality of the existing garden, we used the multi-level site to our advantage and used different height planters to exaggerate the levels. We used three shades of grey to link the tones of the house to that of the existing paving around the swimming pool. A multi-seasonal approach was taken with the planting, again considering the varying planting heights to add further interest.
The tolerances of the design layout were exceedingly fine, and both we – and the client – were extremely impressed by the quality and precision of IOTA’s planters.”
A total of 44 planters were used in the multi-level garden, the majority length / width 1200mm, with heights ranging from 300-900mm. The colour palette chosen was RAL 7012 [Basalt grey], RAL 7036 [Platinum grey] and RAL 7042 [Traffic grey]. Given the high-end nature of the scheme, the metal used throughout was 1.4003-grade Stainless Steel, which confers significantly enhanced longevity and corrosion resistance compared with zinc-plated or galvanised mild steel.
