Newhall Community, Harlow, CM17

Information

IOTA was commissioned to supply bespoke Corten Steel tree guards for streetscape works at the Newhall community development in Harlow.

54nr. tree guards were fabricated in 5.0mm Corten Steel, in 3nr. different sizes and configurations. Each tree guard was laser-cut to incorporate the word ‘newhall’; plus the word for ‘tree’ translated in 30 different languages, to emphasise the inclusive and multi-cultural community at Newhall.

In addition to design, manufacture and supply, IOTA’s responsibilities included installation of all tree guards at Newhall. The essential design concept was by landscape architects Colvin & Moggridge, on behalf of client Newhall Projects Ltd.

Newhall is a significant urban extension to the town of Harlow in Essex – a settlement founded on Frank Gibberd’s pioneering principles of distinct neighbourhoods, set in a framework of landscape and local centres, promoting community identity. Newhall is the latest of these neighbourhoods, and includes some 2,300 homes, a new primary school and nursery, parkland and recreation areas, employment space and a district centre.
