Mercure Paignton Hotel, Paignton, Devon

IOTA was commissioned to design, manufacture and install bespoke planters, benching and illuminated cladding for the Mercure Paignton Hotel, Paignton TQ4.

IOTA was contracted on the basis of full Design and Build responsibility, and the contracted Scope of Works included:

  • Full site survey, design, manufacture and installation responsibility, for IOTA’s elements.
  • Design integration with the lighting package [by others], including allowance for LED underlighting, electrical supply boxes, driver boxes, access panels etc.   
  • Circa. 85 linear metres of structural cladding, to a max height of 800mm, in 130nr. individually designed sections. Structural cladding manufactured from 2.0mm 1.4003-grade Stainless Steel, powder coated with a Corten-effect paint finish, to an application schedule suitable for C3/C4 environments.
  • Additional, aesthetic, Brass cladding to the lighting shadow gaps under all structural cladding, and to all illuminated stair risers. This aesthetic cladding in 1.5mm Brass with a dull polished finish, to be allowed to naturally patinate with age.
  • The cladding design included details such safety folds [where accessible to the public], and sacrificial sections to allow for on-site tolerance adjustments.  
  • 1nr. bespoke planter, of complex geometry, and dims. of L 3580 x W 2180 x H 800mm.
  • 1nr. bespoke planter, of complex geometry, and dims. of L 4017 x W 2575 x H 500mm, including a L 1500mm benching section of 150x70mm FSC Hardwood timbers.
  • Planter, and planter with bench, manufactured from 3.0mm 1.4003-grade Stainless Steel, powder coated with a Corten-effect paint finish, to an application schedule suitable for C3/C4 environments.
