A total of 33nr planters were commissioned to realise the vision of the landlords, The Portman Estate, to enhance the attractiveness of Old Quebec Street as a retail destination – particularly at night. Old Quebec Street joins Oxford Street only 150 metres from Marble Arch Underground Station – a location which offers exceptional shopping and restaurant development potential.

The requirement for the tree planters to be illuminated was a singular challenge, given that there was no mains electricity supply available. IOTA designed a rechargeable battery-powered solution, which best optimised many conflicting considerations – both horticultural; and also in terms of establishing realistic and sustainable O&M routines, particularly in relation to routine charging.
