Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire

Information

Bespoke GRP / fibreglass planters were commissioned from IOTA for Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire. One of England’s principal heritage sites, Belvoir Castle dates back almost 1,000 years to Norman times, and has been the seat of the Duke of Rutland since 1509.

Imposing 1000mm cube planters were specified, 17 in total, in keeping with the scale and grandeur of the castle. To coordinate with the existing leadwork of the castle, project designer Irena Murray sought to create a flat lead effect for the planters, and colour RAL 7024 [Graphite Grey] in matte finish was selected. The planters are lightweight but also extremely robust, made using high quality polyester resins, hand-laid woven glass fibre mat, and marine-grade polyurethane paints. As tree planting was specified as a requirement, the planters were further strengthened by laying the fibreglass over an internal steel skeleton.
