Large custom planters in granite were commissioned by MEPC for the landmark Milton Park development in Oxfordshire.
The brief required the planters to be suitable for tree planting, and the 1300mm wide planters are robustly constructed from 25mm thick granite, reinforced internally. The planting is simple, but striking, using Betula utilis Jacquemontii (Himalayan White Birch), whose shallow and spreading root structure is particularly suited to the low and wide profile of the granite tree planters.
Milton Park is one of the UK’s leading business and science parks. The site covers 250 acres, with over 3 million sq ft of commercial space, and being home to over 165 businesses employing around 6,500 people. The park provides a range of high quality offices, laboratories and industrial units to let/rent, as well as The Innovation Centre providing serviced office space for start-up and SME companies.
