The Standard, London WC1

IOTA’s Boulevard planters were selected for The Rooftop Bar at The Standard, London, in the heart of King’s Cross, London WC1.

Boulevard planters are a range of high-performance composite planters made from a proprietary form of Fibre Reinforced Cement [FRC]; and the planters are most commonly specified with a robust paint finish, in either the standard Anthracite grey colour, or in another custom RAL colour. However, Boulevard planters are also available unpainted, in the raw, light grey finish; and this finish works perfectly with the 1970’s Brutalist concrete architecture of The Standard, London building. Unlike painted Boulevard planters [where the paint finish seals the FRC], planters in the raw FRC finish are porous; and they will weather and age over time, maintaining and developing the ‘concrete aesthetic’.

The range also includes other more artistic / sculptural designs, typically used with unconventional / high-impact planting, and a selection of those designs was chosen for The Standard. The specific planter designs chosen were:

KOLONNA – in two sizes: D600 H500mm and D 600 H 600mm

SPINDEL – in two sizes: D370 H600mm and D 560 H 920mm

BIASCA – in one size: D930 H 320mm

SUSHI – in two sizes: D650 H650mm and D650 H 650mm

Standard Hotels is a group of seven boutique hotels in New York City, Miami Beach, London, Maldives, Ibiza, and Hua Hin, Thailand. The Standard, London is housed in the former Camden Town Hall Annex in London’s thriving King’s Cross neighbourhood. The 1974 Brutalist building has been meticulously restored; whilst the completely renovated interior is rich with playful design references to the 1960s and 70s, which is a hallmark of the Standard Hotels group style.
