IOTA was commissioned to supply a range of bespoke products including standing-height tables, timber seating and a number of Corten Steel planters, for a transformational gateway project located on the forecourt of Watford Junction railway station.
All elements were fabricated from pre-weathered 3.0mm Corten Steel, plus sustainably sourced Iroko FSC hardwood timber. All planters include adjustable feet, hidden behind a skirt plinth, and the planters with standing-height tables were designed to be lowered over existing bollards to increase functionality.
The design concept was by art and architecture studio Dallas–Pierce–Quintero, who also commissioned the works on behalf of Watford Borough Council. The complete scheme by Dallas–Pierce–Quintero included art installations, wayfinding and illuminated seating, to create a welcoming and impressive first impression of Watford, that celebrates the town’s distinctiveness and printing heritage.
