Day Care & Respite Centre, Edinburgh EH16

Information

Bespoke powder coated steel planters were commissioned for The Autism Day Care & Respite Centre in Edinburgh.

The planters were large: dims. L 7000 x W 2500 x H 450mm and L 3000 x W 2500 x H 450mm, and were supplied in a total of 5nr. sections. The scale of the planters required each to be internally strengthened via an extensive framework of vertical stiffeners and cross-braces; and the sections were designed to be joined together on-site below the soil level, so that the surface planting would appear visually continuous. The planters were manufactured from 1.5mm Zintec steel, polyester powder coated to RAL 7031 [Blue grey].

The Autism Day Care & Respite Centre is situated in the Craigmillar district of Edinburgh, and is a pioneering support facility providing care for adults with autism and learning difficulties. The centre is the first of its kind in Scotland, and offers 20-day support service places and overnight accommodation for six people; and its respite resource will cater for up to 55 people a year. Funded by Edinburgh City Council, the £4m initiative features bedrooms, activity rooms, quiet spaces and sensory rooms, all built around a central courtyard.
