IOTA co-sponsored The Platform Garden at the 2023 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, designed by Amelia Bouquet and Emilie Bausager.
IOTA design-engineered and sponsored all of the metalwork elements for the garden – including a tiered planter, planter with bench, compost bin, and rain water harvesting water tank.
The Platform Garden is inspired by overground train platforms in and around London showcasing how green infrastructure can be better incorporated into community garden areas in train stations. These spaces can be a key element in tackling climate change in cities; and also creating a pleasant atmosphere for commuters, community gardening groups and staff working at these stations.
Inspired by the design aesthetic found across transportation networks, the garden displays hard wearing materials such as metro tiles, glass bricks and re-used concrete pavers and litter bins with graphic curved lines to mimic a train’s movement and form. Working with Energy Garden and TFL, the garden will be re-instated after Chelsea at Latimer Road station in West London, with the help of a community gardening group.
Emilie Bausager and Amelia Bouquet studied together at the English Gardening School in London and both set up their respective design practices in 2018. Emilie works in both Copenhagen and London and Amelia works primarily in London and the UK. They share a passion for greening urban community spaces and hope to transform grey public spaces with biodiverse planting schemes to benefit mental and physical health.
