Edinburgh – Cala Homes – Waterfront Plaza, EH6

IOTA was commissioned to design and manufacture large bespoke Powder Coated Steel planters, for Cala Homes’ new Waterfront Plaza development in Edinburgh.

The order was for a total of 36nr. large planters, with varying dims. and arrangements, up to the largest L 3745 x W 1500 x H 525mm. All planters were manufactured from 3.0mm Zintec Steel, polyester powder coated to RAL 7016 [Anthracite grey]. The planters were designed to sit on a concrete pedestal, where the sides of the planter encase the pedestal. A bespoke gusset welded within the planter provides rigidity to the walls of the planters whilst enabling means of fixing the planters to the concrete pad.

Waterside Plaza is laid out as three, horseshoe-shaped buildings, each surrounding a community garden on a podium deck above ground floor parking. IOTA’s planters are used to green these focal-point community gardens, which are otherwise laid to artificial turf. 

With an impressive Quay setting, Waterfront Plaza is an award-winning waterside development, featuring contemporary homes with various styles and layouts to suit different homeowner needs. The development is situated a few minutes’ walk from Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre, offering everything from cocktail bars to Michelin star restaurants, cafes to coffee shops, plus a cinema and gym. Waterfront Plaza also has excellent travel connections, via the recently-opened Newhaven extension to the Edinburgh Trams network.
