IOTA delivered a broad range of landscape product solutions for the extensive community gardens at Telford Homes’ The Forge development in Upton Park, London E6.
The Scope of Works comprised tree planters, shrub planters, freestanding seats and stools, freestanding benches, and planters combined with integrated benching – 92nr. elements in total, delivered to-site via 6nr. artic trailers, in a programme phased over 8 weeks.
Metal elements were fabricated from 2.0mm to 4.0mm Steel, zinc primed and Polyester Powder Coated to RAL 7002 [Olive grey]; using a durable, matte, textured paint formulation from Interpon / Akzo Nobel's D2525 Structura range. Timber elements were all fabricated from Iroko FSC hardwood, machined to suit the various designs and applications.
IOTA was commissioned by main contractor Corbyn Construction Limited, on the basis of Design, Manufacture and Supply.
Telford Homes acquired The Forge, formerly a bus depot, in 2014; and the development completed July 2019. The scheme, designed by RMA Architects, comprises 192 residential apartments, clustered around communal courtyards, accessed off a new public street. The development comprises 35% affordable housing and 39% of the homes are family sized with three bedrooms or more; and 125 homes have been sold to M&G for build-to-rent. Telford Homes’ belief that “good place-making fosters connections and social interactions between people and nature” is clear at The Forge, with its extensive community gardens and broader public realm enhancements to the local area.
