IOTA was contracted to design, manufacture and supply five large steel planters, clad in granite, as part of streetscape improvements to Woking town centre.
The large tree planters [dims. L 1500 x W 1500 x H 900mm] were fabricated from 3mm thick Zintec Steel, polyester powder coated to RAL 9023 [Pearl dark grey], with a cladding of flame-brushed granite. The rims return outwards, to create a finished line for the granite cladding; and the vertical edges of the four corners are also capped with steel. IOTA’s design also includes a substantial internal framework of 50 x 50mm box section, plus the facility for the planters to be moved via fork lift.
The planters were commissioned as part of a major highways upgrade to Church Street, and the town centre-side railway station approach. The Wanderer [a dishevelled man in a black coat and grey T-shirt standing outside the station] is one of five larger-than-life statues, located throughout the town centre, and the work of Woking-born sculptor Sean Henry.
