Information

IOTA was commissioned to supply a major bespoke public realm scheme for Bournemouth County Council.

The Scope of Works included:

  • Large, multi-section planter beds, incorporating seating.
  • Large timber-clad tree planters, of varying dims.
  • Long, curving multi-section planters.
  • Long, curving benches, with armrests.
  • Freestanding benches with backrests and arm rests.

Materials and finishes used in the scheme included 1.4003-grade Stainless Steel >> with a Polyester Powder Coat [PPC] finish, bead blasted 316-grade Stainless Steel, hot-dipped galvanized Mild Steel, pre-weathered Corten Steel, and CNC machined FSC Iroko and European Oak timbers. The PPC application used a durable, 3-coat system, designed for C3/C4 environments.

All elements of the scheme were bespoke, and designed by WSP – the leading international firm providing management and consultancy services to the built and natural environment. IOTA’s design responsibility was purely technical, and limited to proposing manufacturing solutions to enable WSP’s vision to be realised. The works were commissioned by EH Smith Builders Merchants Ltd for principal contractor Balfour Beatty, on behalf of Bournemouth County Council.
