IOTA was commissioned to supply 2nr. large planters with integrated seating for the new multi-modal transport hub outside the Arrivals Hall at Bristol Airport.
Each planter is of dims. 5600 x 1600 x 1000mmH with the seating at 450mmH, fabricated from 3.0mm Corten Steel supplied pre-patinated. Additional design features include:
The original conception also included a decorative timber panel, featuring swallows and bullrushes; however this was excluded from the final design, over concern that this might create a finger trap hazard for children.
IOTA was contracted directly by Bristol Airport Limited on the basis of design, supply, manufacture and installation. IOTA’s design responsibility was limited to design-for-manufacture, with the concept design being by workplace and interior design specialists, Studio Fika.
The new £60m multi-modal transport hub at Bristol Airport is part of a £400 million plan by Bristol Airport to transform the airport experience for customers, and to cater for an increase to 12 million passengers per year. Works completed to-date also include a 50% larger Departure Lounge, a 20% increase in baggage handling capacity in the Arrivals Hall, and greatly improved customer experiences in check-in and passport control / immigration.
