Powder-Coated Steel Planters At Baylis Old School
Back to Projects

Henley Homes

Project Location: Baylis Old School, Lambeth

This historic but dilapidated site has been given a new lease of life with a development by Henley Homes. Last rebuilt in 1964 in the ‘Brutalist’ style, the listed classroom buildings have been transformed into 149 contemporary apartments, family townhouses, and 60s style modernist apartments.

The scheme has generous landscaped areas and secluded courtyards, for which IOTA supplied a total of 28 powder-coated steel planters. These were closely-placed along a walkway, and in a tight grid pattern in the main courtyard, with the intention of creating the effect of a ‘raised garden’ rather than a number of individual, isolated planters.

Planter sizes were L1200 x W 1200 x H 900mm, and L 2200 x L 2200 x H 900mm, manufactured from 2mm thick Zintec Steel with a polyester powder coated finish. The paint selected was Interpon 610 - Bismuth - MX302L; a matt, slightly textured paint finish, which from close quarters has a fine granularity. It is an extremely forgiving colour, ideal for use in trafficked areas.
