Monaghan County Council

Project Location: Monaghan, Ireland

IOTA was commissioned by Monaghan County Council to supply Corten Steel planters, plus Corten Steel planters w/ Cumaru timber seating, for a public realm scheme in Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, EIRE.

The landscaping scheme is arranged around a bronze statue commemorating the life of country and Irish music legend Big Tom McBride, who was born in Castleblayney.  

All items were fabricated from 3.0mm Corten Steel, pre-weathered before shipment. The complete Scope of Works comprised:
 

6nr. Rectangular Shrub Planters
L 2400 x W 1000 x H 900mm
Standard IOTA shrub planter design
Reservoirs: to include, per planter, 2nr. Mona Tank 24 reservoirs, connected in series
 

6nr. Low Cone Tree Planters
Dia.[at top] 1800 x H 900mm
Standard IOTA tree planter design, with steel eyes bolts in base for tree root ball anchor attachment, and diagonal cross-braces to create large central void for root ball
Non-standard design:

  • to include channels in base for movement via fork lift
  • to include adjustable feet

Reservoirs: to include, per planter, 2nr. Mona Tank 24 reservoirs, connected in series
 

1nr. Low Square Tree Planter w/ Seating and Backrest
L 2300 x W 2300 x H 1000mm
Standard IOTA tree planter design, with steel eyes bolts in base for tree root ball anchor attachment, and diagonal cross-braces to create large central void for root ball
Non-standard design:

  • to include raised plinth, with 50x50mm shadow gap
  • to include cantilevered bench seating, plus backrest, on two faces - all timbers Cumaru FSC Certified
  • bench seating to be 70 x 70mm timbers running parallel with planter faces, interlocking at corner where they join
  • spacing between 70 x 70mm timbers to be </= 6mm [as per finger entrapment avoidance guideline]
  • bench seating to have a single, 70 x 150mm timber on front edge, radiused for comfort
  • backrest to be 70 x 150mm timber, shaped for comfort

Reservoirs: 1nr. Mona Plant Irrigation Watering System - Ring 24 [4nr. reservoirs connected in a ring]
