FAUX-CORTEN STEEL PLANTERS

IOTA’s FAUX-CORTEN STEEL PLANTERS DELIVER THE DESIRABLE LOOK AND CHARACTER OF WEATHERED STEEL, WITHOUT THE COST AND OTHER DRAWBACKS WHICH CAN BE ASSOCIATED WITH GENUINE CORTEN STEEL.

All our faux-corten manufacture in steel is to-order and to your specification, and we do not hold in stock a standard range of shapes and sizes.

Faux-Corten planters are available in two different finishes:

1. Plain

  • This is a metallic paint finish, with light copper and dark bronze tones; but the overall colouration is relatively uniform and matt, and the surface has a slight texture. The effect is generally suggestive of the natural Corten aesthetic, without being a very definite look.
  • This finish is applied to planters made from zinc-plated ‘Zintec’ Steel; and is achieved by painting with the specialist polyester powder coat Mars 2525 Sablé [YX355F] from Interpon's Collection Futura 2014 - 2017 range.

2. Patina

  • This is not a simple paint finish; but is instead a labour-intensive process of accelerated ageing, designed to replicate naturally weathered Corten steel. The finish is multi-tonal, with bronze, rust and copper hues within a variegated patina; and the surface is smooth, with a slight sheen.
  • This finish is applied to planters made from Mild Steel. The planters are first chemically-weathered, over a period of several days until the desired effect is achieved. The weathering chemicals are then neutralised; the planters cleaned; and the planters are finally sealed with a clear lacquer polyester powder coat.

The Patina finish is much more definite than the Plain finish, and is much truer to weathered Corten. However the Patina finish results from a manual and artistic process, and thus variability within the finish is to be expected; whereas the Plain finish is a standardised finish, which can be consistently replicated.

Faux-Corten planters, in either finish, are robust and hard-wearing, and are suitable for all environments. However true Corten Steel is a material with unique properties, and Faux-Corten is not a substitute for the exceptional durability and longevity of true Corten.

IOTA custom-manufactures Faux-Corten planters in any shape or size, from simple geometric shapes to complex architectural designs. CAD models can also be generated for approval against a design brief.
